Amidst all the recent serious national events Don't forget our Hollywood Alliance meeting:

19 September 2001 - Wednesday Cheremoya School Auditorium Beachwood Drive corner Franklin Avenue 7:00 p m

Please read over the minutes from the last meeting. The agenda for this one follows:

Hollywood Alliance [A Neighborhood Council in Formation]

Minutes for General Meeting - 22 August 2001

Location: Police Building, Blue Room, Fountain Avenue Time : 7:44 pm Presid’g : Andrew Glazier, Co Chair

Glazier spoke briefly about the Alliance and Neighborhood Councils and welcomed attendees. He spoke of organization in a growing period.

Attendees introduced themselves, round robin fashion.

Betty Oyama/Christine Jerian spoke of DONE’s transitional stage in helping Neighborhood Councils. Passed out copies of draft application for Councils. Stated that money was set aside for certified groups with a maximum of 2,500/month for mailings, flyers postcards, etc. DONE will stage workshops on certification beginning on 6 October.

Barbara Linski of Assistance League outlined her organization’s services, an “umbrella” that the League offers for the community, including youth services, senior services and case management. Legal status/citizenship are not requirements for being eligible for services. Nor is financial ability. For senior services the only requirement is age: over 60.

Ann De Bello presented Social Services of Blessed Sacrament Church. She spoke of the various programs that the church has, including food, clothing, homeless showers and laundry facilities. She solicited funds from groups of citizens to provide temporary shelter for homeless families awaiting public assistance. [Two or three days.] Blessed Sacrament needs volunteers. Social Services is located at 6636 Selma Avenue (323) 871 8042. Office hours M, T, Th, F and S, 9:30 – 3:00.

Housing LA (213) 480 1249 outline history of the organization and discussed starting a housing trust fund. Their goal is to build more affordable housing.

Walter Blackman reported on Outreach and thanked those who have been helping him . He also talked about developing a core base. Saturday 25 August a workshop with Bob Untiedt will be held. He discussed the Mission Statement.

Victoria Gaw spoke to oppose political commitments by the Alliance. It was explained that City Regulations do not permit Neighborhood Councils to be partisan in political affairs. Otherwise, the will of the membership will govern its policies and conduct.

David Schlesinger appealed for suggestions for the Agendas as they are upcoming. He made a brief exposition of parking problems existing on Franklin Avenue, and invited all interested to attend the Forum on the subject.

Forum on Parking The Alliance will sponsor a Forum in the Cheremoya Elementary School Auditorium on Wedmesday, 19 September.

An additional meeting date was not set for September-----some believing that the Forum should suffice for that month.

Minutes prepared by Robin Moreno and David Schlesinger

This promises to be an exceedingly interesting meeting! Don't miss it.
